Nate's Beer #16

Today Dr. Bert and I had lunch at McMenamin's Bagdad Theater. The food was awesome and the beer was even better. We split a pitcher of Ruby followed by a pitcher of Black Rabbit Porter which is the beer I am going to count for the day. It had a very smoky flavor to it. It was an alright beer and to tell you the truth, I was a little disappointed because it was McMenamin's after all. Before we left I grabbed a 22 oz. of Ruby and one of Hammerhead. They were both delicious and restored my briefly-lost faith in McMenamin's.

RRR 12 - Spaten Pilsner

Hey all! Just got back from a soiree at some friends' and then a jaunt over to campus to see some former students perform in Malaysian cultural night. Being a Muslim country, there was no alcohol served at teh Malaysian thing, but I had myself a Spaten Pilsner from the Spaten Brewery in Munich at my friend Duff's place beforehand. Decent German beer, but not spectacular. I prefer a Franziskaner of Paulaner Hefeweiss any day.

Day Whatever - Glam

Today I don't give a fuck about anything so I grabbed the first beer my fist came to in the fridge. Belhaven Twisted Thistle IPA. Says it's "Grown, Mashed, Fermented, Twisted and Conditioned in Scotland". Here, you can read about it yourselves.

Maybe I'll write more when the antidepressants kick in.

Nate's Beer #15

For my beer last night I tried a Velvet Antler Amber Ale by what I thought was Elk Rock Brewing. I have since found out that it is made by the Portland Brewing Company. Compared to other amber ales I have had I was not impressed at all. Don't get me wrong it was't a bad beer. It just didn't have any great qualitities that jumped out at me. If you really like amber ales I say check it out, but if you're not I say spend another buck or two and get something good.
Well, I am off for lunch at the McMenamin's Bagdad. I don't get to drink at lunch every day like Dicko, Goat and Trout. By the way, is your guys' company hiring?

RRR 10-11: Otto's Redux

Mornin friends:) Last night I went back to Otto's Pub with some friends to celebrate one of the Canadian's friends passing their candidacy exams. Even though there was an hour wait for a table, I had no problem with this since it gave me time to get one extra beer in to make up for the lack of beer drunk the day before. Granted, I'm nowhere near the 20-something beers Gus is at (Dude, the freaking 2-a-days are making the rest of us look bad. Sheesh!), but I'm at a number I still feel is respectable given I started a few days later than everyone else. Anywho, the two beers I can add to my list are the Elderberry Stout and the Apricot Wheat. The Apricot wheat has always been a summer favorite of mine, light and fruity and all goodness. I rarely have the Elderberry Stout, though it was actually pretty damn good. I usually don't think of mixing fruit and stout, but it works. There was only the slightest hint of berry, so it didn't overwhelm the rich stout taste. Yummy:) Anyhow, that's the only update I have for now. Beer #28

Yes, I am still on track for two-a-day bitches.

At the Blazer game last night (where the blazers scored over 100 by the end of the 3rd quarter, holy shit that was a fun game) I knocked another staple off the list with a Widmer Drop Top. Hard to use this bad boy up already, but the Rose Garden only serves about 10 different beers if you include Coors and Bud and both the light versions of those, so the pickins are slim.

I did however proceed that with a few Great White Ales in the parking lot, as well as another Drop Top at home while adding up raffle ticket prize money (last chance for tickets this weekend...) so all in all I felt pretty good about my beverages last night.

A Blast from the Past

Today at lunch I had a couple of Rainiers with my bacon cheeseburger. Man! I felt like I was 12 years old again and drinking with my dad.

Nate's Beer #14

So for my beer last night I had a Hair of the Dog Rose. Hair of the dog is a Portland brewery that makes beers that are somewhat unusual. Rose is no different. Rose is named for Portland, Oregon, the Rose City. She is inspired by the Belgian style known as Tripple. Rose is low in hops, pale in color and deceivingly light in body for its alcohol strength. Through the use of Belgian candi sugar and honey malts this beer achieves a fruity or floral character. It has 8% alcohol by volume.

Overall I thought it was an alright beer. I personally preferred Fred a whole lot more. I think this weekend though will have to include a trip to the 9th ave brewery for some new brews.

The Rock

I just heard on the radio that Rolling Rock is declaring March 3rd (3/3) a holiday "Rolling Rock Day" to celebrate the 33 that they are famous for. That's wierd, cause I had a Rolling Rock last night at bowling after a 32oz MGD. Looks like I will need to have a Rock Green Light on 3/3. Too bad that stuff tastes like water.

RRR 8-9: Bass Ale & Sierra Nevada

Yesterday I had a bitch fest with one of my girlfriends at a bar/restaurant downtown and as we lamented the woes of graduate school, etc. I managed to imbibe a Bass Ale and a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. The Bass was quite tasty and almost has a faint cider aftertaste but the Pale Ale was nothing to write home about. Oh well... At least I got in 2 beers for the day:)

Last night for my beer to end this first month, I decided to drink a Kona Pipeline Porter. I looked for a picture to add to this post and couldn't seem to find one but I did find Kona's webpage where they describe this beer like this. "Pipeline Porter is smooth and dark with a distinctive roasty aroma and earthy complexity from its diverse blends of premium malted barley. This celebration of malt unites with freshly roasted 100% Kona coffee grown at Cornwell Estate on Hawaii’s Big Island, lending a unique roasted aroma and flavor. Now you may be thinking to yourself that any beer brewed with coffee wouldn't be very good. But you'd be surprised at how easy this stuff goes down. I actually first tried it a couple of months ago thanks to my good friends Reggie and Margaux. And I think I'll probably try it again in the near future. It is a limited release so if it sounds good to you, you should probably check it out sooner than later.
